2020-2021
The Columbus High School has continued performing in new and exciting ways throughout the pandemic. Here are a few of our endeavors and accomplishments this school year.
We begun our year by participating in "The Great ASO Play-A-Long" where students from all over the state of Georgia recorded excerpts from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (Ode to Joy) and submitted them to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to be combined for a virtual performance.
We had a ton of fun sharing our personal music stories and recording. It was our first attempt at a virtual performance, and we learned a ton going through this process.
Here are a few of our student's video submissions:
Every year the CHS Orchestra has the privilege of performing at the Holiday Social. This year we didn't have our traditional get together, but the orchestra was able to record a few selections for the virtual social program. This was our first time meeting as a group this school year. We rehearsed in some unusual settings to meet our COVID safety guidelines: on the baseball field where we had to clothespin our music down to keep it from blowing away and spread out in the seating of the auditorium to make our social recording.
The 2020 Virtual Holiday Social:
On December 12, 2020 the CHS Orchestra played our annual Winter Concert, outside in the school parking lot. Everyone dressed in their favorite tacky Christmas outfit. We were thrilled to play for a live audience, and felt lucky that the weather was perfect!
